Commentary The mask of an old man who dances in the second half of a first-category noh play. The name wrinkled old man reflects the deeply carved wrinkles that line the forehead and cheeks. The gentle curve of the eyes and lips, the lack of lower teeth, the light coloring, as well as the painted mustache and upper beard depict a dignified old man with godly spirit. The mask is worn by the shite in the second act of Hakurakuten, Saigyō-zakura, and Yūgyō Yanagi. [MB]
