Group Description This work belongs to a series of many that in the Edo period made an interpretation of the work Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji (updated reinterpretation of Murasaki's work), written by Ryûtei Tanehiko (1783-1843), and published between 1828 and 1842 by the publisher Tsuruya Kiemon. Utagawa Kunisada, an artist closely associated with Ryûtei, contributed his images to the popularity of the work. The scene of the triptych corresponds to chapter 3 entitled Utsusemi, and which usually depicts the young girl playing with her sister, while being watched unnoticed by Prince Genji, who in this case of Inaka Genji takes the name of Mitsuuji.
