| 組解説 Actors Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Jiraya no henshin and Bandō Shūka I as Tagoto hime no henshin. The play is Story of Jiraiya the gallant. It chronicles the adventures of Ogata Shuma Hiroyuki , a wandering ninja nicknamed Jiraiya. The novel was published between 1839 and 1868, in 43 episodes written by various authors. | 組解説 Such engravings were usually made in memory of a deceased actor. There is the same representation of the actor in an engraving from the series Comparisons of the Five Elements, in which the actor Bandō Shûka portrays the nun Seigen, and the cancelled background is now a landscape in that work.
