組解説:Matabei surrounded by his Otsu-e drawings of legendary characters which have come to life. Making Rare Scrolls in The Otsu-E Manner" was created by Ichiyûsai Kuniyoshi and published by Minatoya Kohei between 1847 & 1852. It is printed upon mid-nineteenth century mulberry paper with full margins. Kuniyoshi's compositions which are springing to life from his scrolls are representations of 'Otsu-e' painting, a famous form of folk art produced in the Otsu region, near Kyoto. This print is important for the Kuniyoshiself portrait, one of the few he painted. He painted himself as Ichikawa Kodanji IV.
