Description:Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) first produced a series entitled Taiheiki Eiyûden in 1848-1849, consisting of fifty prints. With this title he tried to circumvent the censorship, which forbade any discussion of the period before the Tokugawa rise to power. Yoshiiku followed the master, who instead of speaking of the famous chronicle of the 14th century, spoke of the clashes that led to the unification of the country. The author of the texts for Yoshiiku's prints was the writer Sansantei Arindo (1832-1902), and 100 prints make up the series. It appears that the edition was enlarged to include at least 42 prints.
