解説

「天下一是閑」焼印 Heita represents a victorious warrior and is used in Yashima, Tamura, and Ebira. This mask by the famous carver Deme Zekan (1527-1616) catches the vigor and strength of character of a mature soldier in the swarthy coloring with a tint of red, the flaring eyebrows and mustache, the large round pupils, and the wide rounded mouth disclosing upper and lower teeth. A warrior's eboshi hat would cover the straight black horizontal line at the top of the forehead. An carved seal on the back reads 'Tenka-ichi Zekan' (MB)
